You can do it yourself! We can show you howBlack Mountain Alarm knows the in's and out's of alarm systems. We can not only sell you what you need but we can help you install it as well. Of course we offer a full line of installation services but for those of you who would prefer to do it yourself we are here to help! Alarm System Basic's Your alarm should consist of the following. One alarm control and steel cabinet. One transformer to power the alarm control. One LCD Full English keypad. One backup battery. One or more doors and windows. At least one motion detector. One exterior siren. The theory of alarms is one, detection of an intruder, and two, notification. Notification can consist of your siren sounding and central station monitoring of your alarm. You want your siren outside, or at least in the attic near a vent so that your neighbors can hear your alarm. Only having a siren inside is NOT a good idea. Burglars don't like attention! As far as detection goes, you could do all your doors and windows, but if you are gone from your premises all a burglar has to do is throw a rock threw your window or glass door, knock out the remaining glass and gain entry. As long as they do not slide open the door or window they can avert an alarm sounding. This is why motion detection is so important. With today's technology, motion detectors cover an average area of 60 feet out and 50 feet wide. They also can be immune to pets. The DSC Bravo 6 motion we sell is immune to animals up to 85 pounds, but it will still detect a 70 pound two legged animal like a human being. DSC also makes a motion immune up to 95 pounds. At nighttime when you are home, the motions are automatically bypassed by the control. When you set the alarm and leave, the system turns on the motion automatically! As a 3rd line of defense you can also place glass break detectors. These units generally pickup glass breaking up to 30 feet from the unit. Glass breaks do not always work! That is why again, motions are your best protection. If you are going wireless, be aware that you still need to wire four basic things. The keypad, the transformer, the siren, and the telephone line. Then you would place the wireless receiver about 10 feet from your alarm control to avoid signal interference. Then you can place the wireless devices wherever you want! And don't forget fire detection! Smoke detectors combined with off-site monitoring will provide fire response way in advance of your neighbor seeing flames! In most cases your insurance company offers a substantial "average 10%" discount on your homeowners insurance if your system is monitored off-site for fire and burglary.
